In this case, it never occurred to Jasmine and her associates to check the suspect phone history.The lawyer have gone back to those financial account and investigated, traced the drained accounts and linked it to Shannon. She should have claimed it was self defence from fraudsters and that she threatened her. It doesn't make her a murderer.

All lawyers should know that everybody is a suspected until proven otherwise. Any lawyer would do anything to defence his/her client guilty or not. The lawyer should have investigated Sarah's role in helping her friend before presenting in court. 

She should have interrogated Grace's son, if truly he went by the house. Then he didn't see anything and could have been a witness. Why just Sarah? I understand Grace doesn't want her son involved in the case, it doesn't mean there was nothing they could find on him that could solve the case.

A lawyer solves a case by going back to where it all starts, from the base of events. Before it can likely be solved.

The case wasn't just about Grace pleading guilty but for homicide.
