Citation, Academic Prey

A Uniben lecturer once consoled 300Level undergraduate of 2.2 upon graduating. He claimed, Graduates with 2.2 or Third Class were more likely to excel career-wise than graduates with 2.1 or First Class. Because graduate with upper credits read to excel compared to graduates with lower credits who are more talents. He also revealed that good grades in am undergraduate first-year determines the rest of the years in school. If you have an average grade in year one, you automatically have average grades till you graduate whether or not you too your grade. There's no room for improvement. Achievements are not dependent on academic knowledge or brilliancy. If you don't have any relationship with your lecturer, there's no way you would be graded accurately while scoring.

The institution of learning has reported sexual harassment cases, 'Sex For Grades' by students. One such case was Monica Osagie, a post-graduate student who exposed Professor Richard Akindele demanding 5 rounds of sex before he could grade her in 2018.

Professor Akindele was found guilty, sacked, jailed and released after serving a two-year jail term.

Monica was denied her certificate and was asked to retake her examination on the basis that there was no record of her class attendance. This she claimed was false and was used against her.
Often, reports are demised for lack of evidence of any harassment by lecturers leaving such students vulnerable, unprotected, threatened and faced with stigma even from their colleagues. Most cases left to forfeit their certificate.
